I’m so glad you’ve started a Substack jogge! I meet you in Damariscotta Maine 6 years ago at the library when was an apprentice at the Carpenters boat shop. Your signed copy is one of my cherished books. I go to a Japanese woodworking school in Kiso valley now and have been sharing your book with others!! Looking forward to reading more and thank for your generosity in sharing your passion, insight and craft

How cool that you share your inspiration with the world in his way. Awesome! 👍

Very inspiring to read about you sketches, inspiration and the importance of mornings. I feel the same: I get my best ideas in the morning after waking up, before the rest of the world enters. I deliberately have all my screens away from this morning time. It's uninterrupted time with meditation and pondering. On some days, I love to be in this space for hours, and it's always feeding my days and work.

However, I've never thought about bringing my carving work physically into that morning space. I love to watch my carvings in the morning, and always see new things in it. But I often watch my work later in the morning, when the fresh morning eyes have moved away a bit.

This post made me consider: how can I get my carving work closer to waking up? That feels relevant now.

Thanks for this inspiring post.
